Same object, different names
Deal toy, deal tombstone, financial tombstone, deal lucite and closing gift are used for the commemorative a deal team receives when a transaction closes. Banks tend to say tombstone, law firms and private equity teams tend to say deal toy, and acrylic pieces are often called lucites.
Where tombstone comes from
Banks have long published a printed announcement in the financial press listing the parties and the roles in a deal. The block of text looks like a gravestone, so it took the name tombstone. The physical piece reproduces that layout: issuer, deal type, amount where disclosed, banks and date.
Where deal toy differs
A deal toy usually adds an object or a design idea: a model of the target company's product, an industry symbol or a sculptural shape. A plain tombstone is the text-led version, often a clear slab on a base. Many orders sit between the two.
What to ask a supplier for
Use whichever word your team uses. A good supplier reads the brief, not the label. State the deal type, the parties, the material you prefer, the quantity and the date, and see the brief checklist. For material choices read lucite or crystal, then send the brief on the quotation page.
